While the coronavirus pandemic canceled the Aug. 27 awards luncheon sponsored by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s office for the U.S. Catholic bishops’ domestic anti-poverty program will nonetheless be involved in the awarding of $210,000 in national and local grants.
The event is usually held at St. Francis of Assisi in Mayfield, where the pastor, Monsignor William F. Burke, is the archdiocesan director of CCHD, which was founded in 1970.
National grants were awarded to four organizations:
- Bridge Maryland, which addresses reform of the criminal justice system, will receive $60,000;
- The CHIN Association of Maryland, which works to restore the U.S. refugee settlement program, will receive $40,000;
- The Charm City Community Land Trust, which promotes home ownership, will receive $35,000;
- Drink at the Well, which promotes home ownership in Curtis Bay, will receive $30,000.
Local grants were awarded to three organizations:
- Anne Arundel Connecting Together, which consists of 26 church-based and nonprofit groups, will receive $15,000;
- The Network for Developing Conscious Communities, which supports minority-owned businesses and fair wages, will receive $15,000;
- Youth as Resources, which trains and supports high school-aged leaders, will receive $15,000.
A news release from the local CCHD office noted that last November, the collection for CCHD in the archdiocese brought in $161,500.
