Catholic Review Pallottine Father Robert J. Nolan, who served at St. Jude’s Shrine, dies at 86

A funeral Mass will be offered Feb. 21 for Pallottine Father Robert J. Nolan at St. Joseph Church in Hammonton, N.J. Father Nolan, who spent 63 years in Pallottine religious life and 56 as a priest, died Feb. 16. He was 86.

Father Nolan ministered in Baltimore, including a stint at St. Jude Shrine. He also earned his undergraduate degree in Maryland.

Elsewhere, he ministered in parishes and schools in New York and New Jersey.

Born in Philadelphia, he entered the Pallottines at the Queen of Apostles Novitiate in Sag Harbor, N.Y., beginning a lifelong commitment to the Society of the Catholic Apostolate. He made his consecration as a Pallottine on Aug. 22, 1963.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Xaverian Brothers College and pursued theological studies at St. Joseph Seminary in Washington, D.C. He was ordained to the priesthood June 20, 1970.

A gifted homilist, Father Nolan embraced a new chapter as an artist in his later years.
