Sister Ann Elizabeth Hartnett, S.S.N.D., dies at 88

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Ann Elizabeth (Mary Benedictus) Hartnett was offered Nov. 19 at Villa Assumpta in Baltimore. Sister Ann died Nov. 7 at Stella Maris. She was 88.

Raised at St. Brigid in East Baltimore, where she graduated from the parish elementary school, Sister Ann entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame Aspiranture in Fort Lee, New Jersey, for high school. On Aug. 28, 1953, she entered the SSND candidature from her home parish. The following July she was received into the novitiate. Upon completion of the novitiate, Sister Ann professed first vows on July 30, 1955.

Sister Ann held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from what is now Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore and a master’s degree in elementary education administration from what is now Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore.

Sister Ann taught at several schools in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Beginning in the 1970s, she served as pastoral associate at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish in Laurel for 26 years. That was followed by 13 years at St. Joseph in Fullerton, first as Health Care Ministry Coordinator and then as Coordinator of Pastoral Visitors. She also served in Georgia.
