Sister Joan Cooper, O.S.F., dies at 94

An 11 a.m. funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Joan Cooper will be offered at Assisi House in Aston, Pa., March 27. Sister Joan died March 18. She was 94 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for more than 72 years. 

Sister Joan was born in Philadelphia and entered the congregation in 1948, professing her first vows in 1951. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Villanova University and master’s degree in secondary education and English from St. Joseph’s College, Philadelphia.

Sister Joan taught at Immaculate Conception School in Towson (1948-49). Elsewhere, she served in the Archdiocese of Washington and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
