A funeral Mass was offered Sept. 9 in Dunmore, Pa., for Sister Joan Golden of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Sister Joan, formerly known as Sister M. St. Robert, died Sept. 3. She was 91.
She had been a member of the IHM congregation for 66 years and taught at the former St. Bernardine Elementary School in West Baltimore 1956-57.
Born June 25, 1934, in Carbondale, Pa., she entered the IHM congregation in 1952, and made her temporary profession of vows in 1955, and her final profession of vows on Aug. 3, 1959. Sister Joan received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in elementary education, both from Marywood College in Pennsylvania.
Elsewhere, Sister Joan served as a teacher in Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She also served at the IHM Center and IHM Educational Enrichment Institute in Scranton, Pa.
