A funeral Mass will be offered Feb. 12 in Wisconsin for Dominican Sister of Sinsinawa Sigrid Simlik, who died Jan. 23. Sister Sigrid, a former teacher at St. Rose of Lima School in Brookland, was 97.
Her ministry was dedicated to teaching and hospital chaplaincy.
She taught elementary education at the now-closed St. Rose of Lima School in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore from September 1949 to June 1953.
Elsewhere, she ministered in Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.
Lillian Agnes Simlik was born June 28, 1928, to Paul and Catherine (Mikeska) Simlik in Chicago, Ill. She professed vows with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1949 and received the religious name Sister Sigrid. She received her bachelor’s degree in classics from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in River Forest, Ill.; a CPE as certified chaplain from Shannon Hospital, San Angelo, Texas; and a master’s degree in theology from St. Mary University, San Antonio.
Sister Sigrid was preceded in death by a brother, Father Frank Simlik.
