Archdiocesan Spelling Bee returns

The Archdiocese of Baltimore Spelling Bee returned this year with 23 participants at St. Joseph School in Cockeysville, May 8.

Sponsored by the archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools and Catholic Review Media, the bee went through more than 250 words before crowning a winner.

The winners were: First place: Meqdim Abera, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Ellicott City (grade 4); second place: Mika Mataac, St. Margaret School, Bel Air (grade 5); third place: Ameya Budaraju, Trinity School, Ellicott City MD (grade 6).

The spellers were welcomed by associate superintendents from the Department of Catholic Schools Karen Murphy and Gregory Komnondor. Judges included staff members of the Department of Catholic Schools and Catholic Review Media. Christopher Gunty, associate publisher and editor of Catholic Review Media was the emcee and pronouncer.
