The Blue Mass, which recognizes and honors the work of police officers, first responders and firefighters from around the state, will be celebrated at three parishes.
St. Peter the Apostle in Oakland will celebrate its third annual Blue Mass for Allegany and Garrett counties Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at 208 S. 4th St., Oakland. A reception hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary will follow in the Parish Center Hall.
Archbishop William E. Lori will offer a Blue Mass Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Monastery, 3801 Old Frederick Road, Irvington.
St. John in Westminster, 43 Monroe St., is also planning to celebrate a Blue Mass Oct. 3 at 4:30 p.m. A reception will follow the Mass in the Portico.
The Blue Mass is named for the color of the uniforms traditionally worn by many first responders. All public safety professionals and first responders are encouraged to wear their uniforms, and retired professionals are invited to attend, too.
