Catholic High ‘mathletes’ bring home gold in national competition

The Catholic High School of Baltimore announced April 27 that the school earned first place in the team and individual competition in the national mathletes tournament held by the Catholic Math League.

The Catholic all-girls high school was the only school in Maryland to place in the top 25.

The mathletes team was led by senior Veronica Schmidt, the individual champion, and juniors Tracy Anne Tan and Stella Colantuno. The team was led by mathematics department chair and mathletes moderator Colm Carolan.

In addition to winning the team event, Catholic High had five students place in the top 50 of the individual competition.

Schmidt placed first nationally, correctly answering 97 of 100 questions on all four tests.

Tan finished in 12th place, Colantuno in 21st place, freshman Sofia Schisler in 29th place, and junior Caroline Cucuzzella in 32nd place for the Cubs.
