Mount St. Joseph inducts 12 alumni into Athletic Hall of Fame 

As part of its 150th anniversary celebration, Mount St. Joseph High School in Irvington inducted 12 distinguished alumni into its Athletic Hall of Fame Sept. 11. 

The induction, which began at 6 p.m., was hosted by alumni Barry Simms, a reporter for WBAL-TV 11 News and a 1980 graduate of Mount St. Joseph.  

Inductees ranged from national athletes, collegiate athletes, coaches and philanthropists. Inductees included: 

-Dont’e Thornton Jr. ‘21, a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, who was selected by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout career at the University of Tennessee.

-Marlowe Wax ‘20, a linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers, who helped lead Mount St. Joseph to the 2019 MIAA “A” Conference championship before becoming an accomplished defender at Syracuse University.

-Keon Lattimore ‘03, former University of Maryland running back who led the Terrapins to an Atlantic Coast Conference championship and rushed for 13 touchdowns during his senior season.

-Dino Gregory ‘07, former University of Maryland forward and professional overseas basketball player. Gregory is a two-time Baltimore All-Metro selection and Baltimore City Player of the Year.

-Vinny Smith ‘82, former CEO of Quest Software and founder of Toba Capital, who was a standout wrestler on Mount St. Joseph’s undefeated 1982 team. He was also the lead donor for the construction of the Smith Center, a multipurpose athletic complex on Mount St. Joseph’s campus. 

-Kevin Gates ‘12, former varsity tennis player who earned All-MIAA (Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association) honors in 2012. Gates went on to play collegiate tennis at St. Joseph’s University. 

-Mike Dooley ‘66, former varsity head coach of Mount St. Joseph golf team for 32 years, and former member of the Alumni Board Association. 

-Shane McCarthy ‘93, former varsity wrestler who won first place at the National Prep School Wrestling Championship in 1993.

-Joe Sindelar ‘77, a former Mount St. Joseph golfer and founder and managing partner of CrossBay Capital Partners.

-Joseph Duffy ‘85, former wrestler at Mount St. Joseph. 

-Kirk Nieberlein ‘84, former football player at Mount St. Joseph.

-Robert Nieberlein ‘82, former basketball player at Mount St. Joseph.
