VATICAN CITY (CNS) — From the solemn proclamation of St. John Henry Newman as a doctor of the church to the Jan. 6 closing of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo XIV has a full calendar of liturgies and prayer services in the coming months.
Archbishop Diego Ravelli, master of papal liturgical ceremonies, published Sept. 30 the pope’s scheduled liturgies for November, December and early January.
The calendar did not include possible liturgies in Turkey and Lebanon, a trip Pope Leo is expected to make in late November and early December.
The list released Sept. 30 includes:
— Nov. 1 morning Mass in St. Peter’s Square and the proclamation of St. John Henry Newman as a doctor of the church.
— Nov. 3 memorial Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the late Pope Francis and cardinals and bishops who have died in the past year.
— Nov. 9, Mass at Rome’s Basilica of St. John Lateran for the feast of the basilica’s dedication.
— Nov. 16, Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the Jubilee of the Poor.
— Nov. 23, Mass in St. Peter’s Square for the feast of Christ the King and the Jubilee of Choirs.
— Dec. 8, prayer at a statue of Mary in the center of Rome for the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
— Dec. 12, evening Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
— Dec. 14, Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the Jubilee of Prisoners.
— Dec. 24, Christmas Mass at night in St. Peter’s Basilica. Pope Leo has moved the celebration back to 10 p.m. after Pope Francis had begun the celebration at 7:30 p.m.
— Dec. 25, Christmas morning Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica followed at noon by the pope’s blessing “urbi et orbi” (to the city and the world) from the central balcony of the basilica.
— Dec. 31, evening prayer and the singing of the “Te Deum” (“We praise you, oh God”) in thanksgiving for the blessings of the past year in St. Peter’s Basilica.
— Jan. 1, Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the feast of Mary, mother of God, and the World Day of Peace.
— Jan. 6, the closing of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica and the celebration of Mass in the basilica for the feast of the Epiphany.
— Jan. 11, celebration of the feast of the Baptism of the Lord in the Sistine Chapel with the baptism of several infants.
