Due to the threat of severe weather, including possible tornadoes, hail and strong winds, the March 16 Maryland March for Life has been cancelled and several school systems are closing early.
The 47th annual march in Annapolis, which was not even canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and 2022, was to feature a youth rally beginning at 4:30 followed by Mass with Archbishop William E. Lori at St. Mary Church. A rally on Lawyer’s Mall was to follow with a reception at St. Mary’s School closing the festivities.
“We were looking forward to honoring our pregnancy and maternity ministries this year with our theme Beyond Abortion,” Rachel Nesmith, Maryland March for Life steering committee chair said in a news release. “Just as we are here to protect the sanctity of all human life, we must take into consideration the safety of our volunteers, guest speakers and the hundreds of attendees who were planning on joining us Monday.”
In a social media post, march organizers said the march may possibly be rescheduled “in the coming weeks.”
Local school systems closing early are: Anne Arundel County, two hours; Baltimore County, three hours; Carroll County, two hours; Harford County, three hours; and Howard County, three hours. Baltimore City schools will close two hours early.
Employees at the Catholic Center in Baltimore were given the option to work from home and some parishes have altered their normal schedules because of the weather.
