2025 homicide victims to be remembered at prayer vigil in Baltimore

A coalition of public, private and faith-based partners will gather Dec. 29, 6 p.m., in Southwest Baltimore for a one-hour evening prayer vigil sponsored by the Archdiocese of Baltimore to remember the lives lost to homicide this year and plead for an end to violence.

The group, which all are invited to join, will meet at St. Joseph’s Monastery Church at 3801 Old Frederick Road in Baltimore’s Irvington neighborhood. The participants will then walk in prayer by candlelight to My Brother’s Keeper, less than half a mile away. The names of Baltimore’s 2025 homicide victims will be read along the 10- to 15-minute walk followed by hot chocolate and fellowship at the Catholic Charities resource center.

The prayer walk is part of the ongoing efforts of Health By Southwest to improve and reform the social drivers of health through a partnership with the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital, Catholic Charities of Baltimore, My Brother’s Keeper, Our Lady of Victory Parish and Mount Saint Joseph High School. It follows the coalition’s annual gun buybacks that have collected 1,056 unwanted firearms in three years.

Homicide-prevention advocates as well as elected officials and other dignitaries are expected to attend.
