Baltimore native Conventual Franciscan Brother Gerry Seipp, dies at 80

A funeral Mass for Conventual Franciscan Brother Gerald “Gerry” Seipp will be offered March 18 at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City. The Baltimore native died March 11 in Granby, Conn. He was 80.

He attended Patterson High School in East Baltimore and served as a manager of the record department at Two Guys’ Department Store in Belair Edison for nine years before entering the Novitiate of the Conventual Franciscans in Ellicott City in 1973.

Brother Gerry made his first profession of vows Aug. 15, 1974. He professed solemn vows on Aug. 15, 1977. He spent 13 years of his more than 50 years of ministry at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Baynesville, beginning in 1983. He also spent several years in residence at Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore.

Elsewhere, Brother Gerry served in Rome; Boswell, Pa.; Trenton, N.J.; Rensselaer N.Y.; Chicopee, Mass., and  Enfield, Conn.

Visitation hours will be held March 15, 2-4 p.m., at Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Connecticut, with a Franciscan Wake Service at 4 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated March 18 at 2 p.m., at the Shrine of St. Anthony in Ellicott City, followed by burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Southeast Baltimore.
