Sister Charles Van Hoy, S.P., taught in Lansdowne

Sister Charles Van Hoy of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods died  Jan. 27 at Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind.  She was 91.

She entered the congregation in February 1949 and professed her final vows in 1956. Sister Charles earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master’s degree in library science from Catherine Spalding University.  Of her 72 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as teacher and school librarian for 32 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C.

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Charles taught at St. Clement I School in Lansdowne, 1971-73.

A funeral Mass was offered Feb. 10 at Church of the Immaculate Conception in St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
