Sister Cora Anne Signaigo, D.C., dies at 83

A funeral Mass for Daughter of Charity Sister Cora Anne Signaigo was offered April 4 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg. Sister Cora Anne died March 29. She was 83.

Born in Norfolk, Va., Sister Cora Anne entered the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg in 1964 after earning a degree in nursing from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk.

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, she served as a nurse supervisor at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland (1966-70) and as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Child Care Center in Timonium (1970-1971).  

From 1971-1973, she studied at St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1973, after which she returned to Sacred Heart Hospital as nursing supervisor (1973-1984).  In 1982, Sister Cora Anne earned a master’s degree in business administration from Frostburg University. 

Sister Cora Anne was the coordinator of senior services at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore (1988-1990); vice president of mission services at Sacred Heart Hospital (1990-1993); administrator at St. Joseph Provincial House, Emmitsburg (1993-1995); provincial treasurer for the Emmitsburg Province (1995-2003); and sister servant at Villa St. Michael, Emmitsburg (2007-2010).

Sister Cora Anne also served in Washington, D.C., Hyattsville, Florida, Louisiana and Bolivia. In 2016, Sister Cora Anne was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg to serve in the ministry of prayer until her death.
