Sister Eileen Walsh, taught in Baltimore Catholic schools, dies at 84

Sister Eileen Walsh, who taught for several years at Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic schools in the early 1960s and 1970s, died Sept. 20 at the Assisi House in Aston, Pa. The Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia was 84.

Sister Eileen spent most of her ministry in the Philadelphia area, but for eight years she served as a teacher in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Her posts included what is now St. Michael-St. Clement School in Overlea from 1958 to 1964, St. Stephen School in Kingsville from 1970 to 1971 and St. Elizabeth School in Baltimore from 1971 to 1972. 

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1956 and professed her first vows in 1958. She graduated from Neumann University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in English. She later earned a master’s degree in counseling in 1990 from Villanova University.

With her counseling degree, Sister Eileen served in a number of roles in the social services field, including nine years at the Philadelphia educational nonprofit Shalom, Inc.

A private funeral will be held Sept. 24 at Assisi House.
