Sister Jeanne Filor, D.C., worked in health care in Baltimore Archdiocese

Sister Jeanne Filor, who ministered as a nurse and teacher in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, died Dec. 15 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. A Daughter of Charity since 1956, she was 85.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Sister Jeanne earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

After her initial formation, she taught at St. Michael School in Baltimore, 1958-61; served as a nurse supervisor at the Seton Institute in Baltimore; 1964-72; and after serving in Washington, D.C., and Pensacola, Fla., ministered at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, 1982-85; and as a nurse for the retired sisters at Villa St Michael, 1985-87.

Sister Jeanne returned to active ministry in the archdiocese as a pastoral associate at St. Agnes Hospital, 2001-02; and in pastoral care at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, 2011-14. In 2014, she was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg for the ministry of prayer. 

A funeral Mass was offered Dec. 16 in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg.  Burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
