Sister M. Daniela McCarthy, I.H.M., dies at 101

Sister M. Daniela McCarthy, a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died May 30 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. She was 101.

Born in Pittston, Pa., Sister Daniela was given the name Margaret. She entered the IHM congregation Feb. 2, 1940, made her temporary profession of vows Aug. 2, 1942, and her final profession of vows Aug. 2, 1945.

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Daniela served as a teacher at St. Agnes School in Catonsville from 1948 to 1952. She also ministered in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and the Archdiocese of Washington.

She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and a master’s degree in elementary education, both from Marywood College.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the funeral will be private.
