Sister Madeline Swaboski, I.H.M., dies at 78

Sister Madeline Swaboski, a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Jan. 2 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. She was 78.

Sister Madeline entered the IHM congregation in 1961, made her temporary profession of vows on June 26, 1964, and her final profession of vows on June 26, 1969.

Sister Madeline, formerly known as Sister Stanley Marie, ministered for several years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, serving as the receptionist/school secretary at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore from 2000 to 2004; administrative assistant at the Mother Lange Guild Office of the Oblate Sisters of Providence in Baltimore from 2004 to 2009 and chaplain associate at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Baltimore from 2009 to 2013. She also served in Pennsylvania and New York.

Sister Madeline served on the Board of the Mother Lange Guild and was devoted to its cause of advancing the canonization of Servant of God Mother Mary Lange, founder of the Baltimore-based Oblate Sisters of Providence.

She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Marywood College; a master’s degree in education from the University of Scranton; and a master’s degree in religious education from Marywood College.

The funeral Mass was private.
