Sister Mary Dolorosa Bundy, a Baltimore native whose teaching ministry took her to Chicago, Detroit and New Orleans, died Nov. 16, at age 90. She had been a member of the Oblate Sisters of Providence since 1949.
She was born Delores Frances Bundy on May 6, 1929, the 16th of 17 children. She was raised at St. Peter Claver Parish in West Baltimore, attending the parish school and then St. Frances Academy in East Baltimore, where she was in the class of 1948. She made her final profession of vows in 1957, and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from what is now Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore.
As a teacher or principal, her ministry as an educator took her to St. Cyprian School in Washington, D.C.; Our Lady of the Divine Shepherd School in Trenton, N.J.; Our Lady of Consolation School in Charlotte, N.C.; St. Philip the Apostle School in New Orleans, La; Holy Name of Mary School in Chicago; Presentation/Our Lady of Victory School in Detroit; and St. Katharine of Siena School in Baltimore.
She also taught in the religious education program at St. Gregory the Great Parish in Baltimore, and was a familiar face at the Mount Providence Gift Shop. A talented artist, she crocheted, wrote calligraphy and decorated the windows of the gift shop at the Oblate Sisters’ convent in Arbutus.
A private funeral Mass was to be offered Nov. 24.
