A funeral Mass for Oblate Sister of Providence Mary Katharine Brent will be offered Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at Mount Providence Convent in Arbutus, preceded by a 10 a.m. wake service. Sister Katharine died Oct. 7. She was 106.
Born Mary Elizabeth Brent, Sister Katharine grew up in St. Joseph Parish in Alexandria, Va., entering the Oblate Sister of Providence in Baltimore in 1941. She made her first religious profession in 1944 and her final profession in 1950..
Sister Katharine, who held a master’s degree in education from Marygrove College in Detroit, served at St. Monica School in Baltimore (1944-45), St. Francis Xavier School in Baltimore (1945-46) and the Mount Providence Reading Center in Arbutus (2002-15). Elsewhere, she served in Minnesota, New Jersey, Mississippi, Florida, Illinois and Washington, D.C.
