Harry Spikes

Bon Secours has named Harry Spikes as executive director of Bon Secours Community Works, effective Sept. 14. Spikes is joining the ministry after a 15-year tenure as the district director for Elijah E. Cummings, the late Congressman for the 7th District of Maryland.

“We are very excited to welcome Harry to Bon Secours Community Works as we look to extend our mission and deepen our engagement in the community of West Baltimore,” said David Belde, vice president of Community Health for Bon Secours Mercy Health. “We have had the pleasure of working with Harry in his role as district director, and we look forward to seeing him flourish in our health ministry.”

In this role, according to a news release, Spikes will report to Belde and is responsible for the strategy and oversight of Bon Secours Community Works programs that serve the West Baltimore community with a focus on housing and community development, youth and family services, economic development, coalition building and community engagement.

“I am honored to begin this new journey with Bon Secours Community Works,” Spikes said in the news release. “The work this organization has done in this community has been remarkable and I am humbled to lead this organization. In line with Bon Secours’ Mission, I’m passionate about improving the health of this community, and I look forward to carrying this Mission on in my new role.”

During his 15-year tenure with Congressman Cummings, Spikes specialized in the sustainability of quality, affordable and safe housing for all people through property acquisition, foreclosure prevention, homeless services, utility services, community safety, lead abatement, landlord/tenant rights and witness protection. With this experience, Spikes will bring a wealth of knowledge to his role as executive director that will help grow and advance Bon Secours Community Works’ Mission of enriching West Baltimore communities through programs and services that contribute to long-term economic and social viability of neighborhoods.

Spikes holds a master of public administration from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor of political science from Morgan State University.
