Pro-life essay contest open through Nov. 4 for students October 11, 2024By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Local News, News, Respect Life, Schools The Institute for Excellence in Writing and the American Life League’s Culture of Life Studies Program are co-sponsoring a pro-life writing contest for middle and high school students. The deadline for entries is Nov. 4 with students from fifth through 12th grades eligible for cash and pro-life gear. Winning entries also are eligible for publication in Celebrate Life Magazine. Middle school students must submit a 500-word essay using the following prompt: “Every baby is an unrepeatable miracle whose life begins at the moment the sperm fertilizes the egg. Each has a soul and is created by God, and when we talk with others about this baby, it helps to shine a light on her uniqueness. Choose one stage of a preborn baby’s development (first trimester, second, or third). Explain the development in this stage (what the baby can do, what he looks like, etc.). Then address three concrete ways you can help others see the humanity of the baby in this stage.” High school students must submit a 500-word essay using the following prompt: “Human beings are unique, special, and unrepeatable miracles of God created in His image. Choose one pro-life topic (abortion, IVF, euthanasia, etc.) and explain what it is, why it is a threat to human beings, and how, in your school or community, you will speak out against this practice.” Submissions must be the original and previously unpublished work of the student. Essays must be submitted by a parent, legal guardian or teacher. Submissions must conform to formatting requirements. Visit prolifeessay.com for full submission guidelines, formatting requirements, prize details and to enter. Winners of the contest will be notified in December.
