Sister Aletta Dorothy Donahue, O.S.F., taught in Baltimore Archdiocese

Sister Aletta Dorothy Donahue, a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 71 years who taught at three schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, died June 11 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. She was 97.

A native of Trenton, N.J., the former Sister Charles Francis professed her first vows in 1949. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from what was then Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg. She ministered primarily in education and received several awards, including the Outstanding Catholic Educator Award from the Diocese of Trenton and the Catholic Educator of the Year Award from the Knights of Columbus.

She ministered for 25 years in both the Dioceses of Trenton and Wilmington, Del. Sister Dorothy spent 14 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, where she taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Essex, Immaculate Conception School in Towson, and St. Vincent School. In the Archdiocese of Washington, Sister Dorothy taught for three years at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Bethesda.
