The Archdiocesan Gala will return in-person for the first time in more than three years, scheduled for April 22 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
The majority of the proceeds will support tuition assistance at Catholic schools in the archdiocese, as has been the tradition since the gala began in 2009, the 200th anniversary of Catholic schools in the United States. This year, proceeds will also go to ministries in the archdiocese that reflect the five core pillars of the archdiocese’s mission statement: evangelization, liturgy, education, service and stewardship.
This aligns with the relaunch of the archdiocesan Medals of Honor, which will be awarded at the gala.
The Medals of Honor will recognize lay and religious individuals who have demonstrated a willingness to go above and beyond through the course of their work. Each will be honored for his or her dedication, passion and outstanding contributions in one of five specific categories.
“There are inspiring acts of service and sacrifice happening every day across the archdiocese, and these Medals of Honor shine a light on ordinary people who do extraordinary things to share Christ’s love,” Archbishop William E. Lori said in announcing the opening of nominations for the awards. “We hope that by uplifting the honorees, many others will be moved and inspired to let their light shine.”
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 17.
Matt Anthony, senior director of engagement and giving for the archdiocese, said relaunching the gala as a biennial event follows feedback from stakeholders, including long-time sponsors of the event, board members and volunteers. This will also balance the archdiocese’s two largest community-based events – the gala in the spring and the Partners in Excellence Scholarship Program’s Back-to-School Breakfast each fall.
