The Institute of Notre Dame Alumnae Association provided $45,000 in gifts to five all-girls Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore for the second straight year.

Five $7,000 checks earmarked for tuition assistance were donated to The Catholic High School of Baltimore, Maryvale Preparatory School in Lutherville, Mercy High School in Baltimore, Mount De Sales Academy in Catonsville and Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson. Additionally, the INDAA bestowed $2,000 contributions to each school for nontuition expenses to assist families with the costs for books, uniforms, class rings, field trips and other costs.

The donations by the INDAA help keep alive the impact of the East Baltimore all-girls Catholic school, which closed in 2020 after 173 years. The alumnae group has donated a total of $139,000 in the past three years to area schools.

“To outsiders, it may be shocking to hear that in four years, the amount of money we’ve raised and given to support girls’ education and our Baltimore community is now in the six-figure range. But it’s not so shocking to us. It’s just what we do. IND women were built to succeed and to serve,” INDAA President Kelly Eick said in a media release.

The funds for these gifts were raised through ongoing efforts of the INDAA with events, class gifts and general donations from alumnae throughout the year.

IND began educating girls in 1847. It counts among its graduates former U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
