(Courtesy Mount St. Joseph) A funeral Mass for Xaverian Brother Brian A. Vetter will be offered at 11 a.m. on Jan. 20 at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Ky. Brother Brian died Jan. 14. He was 79 and had been a Xaverian brother for 59 years. Born in Louisville, Brother Brian (whose religious name was Brother Roger) earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree from what is now Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. He taught in Brooklyn, N.Y., before serving at Mount St. Joseph High School in Irvington from 1970 until 1992. While in Baltimore, he was a teacher, coach, counselor and administrator. He was inducted into the Mount St. Joseph Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. Brother Brian served as a missionary in Bolivia for 25 years beginning in 1992. More recently, he ministered to migrants in El Paso, Texas. In his retirement, Brother Brian cared for an ill family member and worked with refugees in Louisville.
