Brother Eugene L. Behenna (formerly Brother Edgar) was offered June 3 at the Chapel of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass. Brother Eugene died May 25. He was 95 and the oldest member of his religious community. Born in Massachusetts, Brother Eugene entered the Xaverian Brothers on Feb. 15, 1946. Six months later, he received his religious habit, taking the name Brother Edgar. Brother Eugene received his bachelor’s degree in English from The Catholic University of America in Washington and a master’s degree in English from Boston College, specializing in Shakespearean studies. Early in his teaching ministry, Brother Eugene taught at Mount St. Joseph High School in Irvington.
