Calvert Hall Announces $2.3 million commitment to Creighton Family Scholarship

Calvert Hall College High School in Towson announced that it has received a $2.3 million commitment to establish the Creighton Family Scholarship.

The new restricted planned gift fund was made jointly by Calvert Hall graduates Jack Creighton (1966 graduate), David Creighton (1968), Mark Creighton (1970) and Scott Creighton (1974) along with their sisters Corinne “Kim” Creighton and Mary Alice Lears.

The Towson school now has more than 100 named scholarships. The Creighton family commitment represents the largest gift to date and the fourth seven-figure gift to Calvert Hall during the school’s capital campaign, Hall 175: The Campaign for Calvert Hall.

In addition to creating the Jack and Corinne “Chummy” Creighton Family Scholarship in honor of their parent’s sacrifice and commitment to providing their children a Catholic education, the commitment will provide substantial funding to the Arthur “Reds” Hucht ’35 Scholarship; establish the Creighton Family Aquatics Endowment to support the Cardinal swimming and water polo programs; the R. Scott Creighton ’74 Fund for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and will fund the establishment of two endowed funds for teaching chairs: The Mary Alice (Creighton) Lears Chair in Physical Education Excellence and the David M. Creighton ’68 Chair in Mathematics Excellence.

David Creighton spent 10 years as a member of the Calvert Hall mathematics department and continues to coach in the Cardinals lacrosse program and Mary Alice has dedicated 30 years as faculty member and administrator at the Calvert School in Baltimore.

“We are honored that Creighton Family have chosen to leave such a legacy with Calvert Hall,” said Christian Brother John Kane, Calvert Hall’s president. “We believe that each young man that has the potential to succeed at Calvert Hall should be allotted the opportunity to experience a Catholic Lasallian education. The Creighton Family are helping further that vision.”

The Creighton brothers were involved in multiple activities at Calvert Hall. David was an accomplished football and lacrosse player while Jack, Mark and Scott competed in swimming.

“On behalf of my brothers and sisters, we are delighted to make this gift to recognize and honor both our parents, as well as the faculty members and coaches, who helped shape our lives,” Scott Creighton said. “From an early age, our parents deeply believed in a rigorous education, and we are indebted to their sacrifices and vision to ensure that we had. We are grateful and blessed for these life lessons from which we still benefit.”

The gift helped Calvert Hall cross the $18 million mark in gifts and pledges toward a $28 million campaign goal.
