Former principal of St. Peter Claver School dies at 93

A funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Anne Bernadette Mancini (formerly Sister Marie Francelle) was offered Feb. 16 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Anne died Feb. 9. She was 93 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years. Born in Philadelphia, Sister Anne entered religious life in 1951 and professed her first vows in 1953. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Neumann University (then Our Lady of Angels College) in Pennsylvania. 

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Anne served as a teacher and then principal of St. Peter Claver School, Baltimore. She worked as the learning center assistant at St. Katherine School and as the learning center director at Ss. Philip and James School, both in Baltimore. She also did some volunteer work at Cardinal Shehan School in Baltimore.

Elsewhere, Sister Anne ministered in Delaware, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and the Archdiocese of Washington. She also served in Africa and the Dominican Republic.
