Knights of Columbus honored for pro-life support

The Columbia Pregnancy Center recently honored the Knights of Columbus for their work supporting pregnancy resource centers and their promotion of pro-life causes.

Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori, supreme chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, accepted the “Gianna Beretta Molla Award” on behalf of the Knights of Columbus April 3 during the Columbia Pregnancy Center’s annual fundraising gala.

Archbishop Lori was the keynote speaker for the event.

More than 1,000 pro-life pregnancy centers around the United States have received support from the Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative that pays for the centers to have ultrasound equipment. The Knights provide other support to pro-life pregnancy centers and are major supporters of the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Archbishop Lori currently serves as vice president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and is the former chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla was an Italian pediatrician, wife and mother who willingly accepted the risk to her own life by declining treatment for a dangerous tumor to protect her unborn child. She died in 1962, a week after delivering her baby.
