Sister Joan died April 9 She was 85. Born in Chicago, Sister Joan professed vows with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1961 and received the religious name Sister Ternan. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Edgewood College, Madison, Wis.; a master’s degree in the teaching of mathematics from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago; and a master’s degree in education management and supervision from what is now Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Joan was a former teacher and principal of St. Rose of Lima School in Brooklyn. Elsewhere, she ministered in Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia, Illinois and Washington, D.C.
