Sister M. Evelyn Howard, IHM, Catonsville teacher, dies at 89

A funeral Mass was offered Aug 16 for Sister M. Evelyn Howard, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. Sister Evelyn, 89, died Aug. 13.

Born in Johnson City, N.Y, she professed her final vows in August 1953, and earned a bachelor of science degree in education and a master of science degree in English from what is now Marywood University in Scranton. Sister Evelyn taught at Catholic schools in Delaware, Idaho, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, and, from 1984 to 1991, at St. Agnes School in Catonsville.

From 2008 until the time of her death, Sister Evelyn was a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.
