Sister M. Mercille Schneider, I.H.M., dies at 96

A funeral Mass for Sister M. Mercille Schneider of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was offered June 10 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Dunmore, Pa. Sister Mercille died June 3. She was 96.

Born in Providence, R.I., and given the name Elizabeth, Sister Mercille entered the IHM Congregation on Sept. 7, 1950, made temporary profession of her vows on Aug. 2, 1953, and final profession of her vows on Aug. 2, 1956. Sister Mercille received a bachelor’s degree in education from Marywood College in Dunmore, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Portland.

Sister Mercille served as a teacher at St. Agnes School in Catonsville from 1977 to 1979. She also ministered in Pennsylvania, New York, Oregon, North Carolina and Silver Spring, Md.
