Sister Maria Soledad Gutierrez dies at 101 August 4, 2026By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Feature, Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass for Sister Maria Soledad Gutierrez of the Oblate Sisters of Providence will be offered Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at her religious community’s motherhouse in Arbutus. Sister Maria died July 18. She was 101. A native of Puerto Rico, Sister Maria entered religious life in 1960 and professed her first vows in 1963. In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Maria served as a dietitian and prefect at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore from 1964 to 1967 and then as a dietitian at Our Lady of Mount Providence Convent from 1967 to 1976. She was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher at the motherhouse from 1978 to 1980 and a teacher’s aide at St. Katharine of Siena School in Baltimore from 2002 to 2006.
