Sister Mary Sheehan, D.C., dies at 86

A funeral Mass for Daughter of Charity Sister Mary (Mary Helena) Sheehan was offered March 27 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg. Sister Mary died March 22. She was 86. 

Born in Somerville, Mass., Sister Mary entered religious life in 1957. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in education from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg in 1971, and her master’s degree in institutional administration from University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in 1976.

Sister Mary was assistant principal of St. Dominic School in Baltimore (1979-82),  administrator of Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg (1997-2000) and was on the support staff of Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg (2013-15). 

Elsewhere, she served in New York, South Carolina, Florida and the Archdiocese of Washington.
