Sister Patricia Ann Scanlan, O.C.D., dies at 92 February 10, 2025By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Feature, Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass for Carmelite Sister Patricia of Jesus (Patricia Ann Scanlan) was offered Jan. 31 at the Carmelite Monastery in Towson. Sister Patricia died Jan. 19 at Stella Maris in Timonium. She was 92 and had been a member of the Carmelite Sisters of Baltimore for 74 years. Sister Patricia was born in Philadelphia. She entered the Carmelite monastery in 1950, when it was located at Caroline and Biddle Streets in Baltimore City. She moved with the community to Dulaney Valley Road in 1961. She professed her vows on April 26, 1952. Sister Patricia’s major work in the community for many years was being infirmarian. She was not only skilled in care of the sick but was also attentive to the many emotional and psychological needs of her sister-patients. She was prioress of the community 1973-79 and 1982-82. Sister Patricia also served on the leadership team of Carmelite Communities Associated and was the coordinator of the association for one term. In Baltimore, she also assisted in liturgy planning and the renovation of her community’s chapel.
