Sister Stella Mary Breen, O.S.F., dies at 92

A funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Stella Mary Breen was offered March 31 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Stella Mary died March 26. She was 92 and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years.

Sister Stella Mary was born Julia Mary Breen in Kiskeam, County Cork, Ireland, where she was a member of Baherbue Parish. She entered the congregation in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1952. Her sister, Franciscan Sister Mary Breen (deceased), was also a member of the congregation. Sister Stella Mary earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg.

Sister Stella Mary served for six years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore at St. Clement Mary Hofbauer School in Rosedale. She also ministered in South Carolina, Delaware, North Carolina and Florida.
