Archbishop Lori to celebrate Mass for World Day of Prayer for Vocations

Archbishop William E. Lori will celebrate a special 5 p.m. Mass May 7 at St. Peter the Apostle in Libertytown for the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, observed May 7-8.

Father Steven Roth, archdiocesan vocations director, will preach a homily about vocations, and the liturgy will be followed by a light reception where people can meet the archbishop and seminarians studying to become priests for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

World Day of Prayer for Vocations is an annual event held on “Good Shepherd Sunday” when the Gospel reading focuses on Christ as the good shepherd. Catholics across the globe are asked to pray in a special way for people to respond to the call to the priesthood and religious life. This year marks the 59th anniversary of World Day of Prayer for Vocations.

“The people of God need to be guided by pastors whose lives are spent in service to the Gospel,” Pope Francis said on the occasion of the 2016 World Day of Prayer for Vocations. “I ask parish communities, associations and the many prayer groups present in the church, not to yield to discouragement, but to continue praying that the Lord will send workers to his harvest.”
