The Baltimore Catholic League will welcome a dozen former greats into the BCL Hall of Fame May 3 during a banquet at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.

Penn State men’s basketball coach Mike Rhoades, who spent six years as the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University before taking the Nittany Lions’ job in March, will be the guest speaker.

Doors at Turf Valley Resort will open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, and there will be a cash bar before the banquet begins at 7 p.m. Individual tickets ($100) and tables of 10 ($950) are available by clicking the link on the front of BCLBasketball.com.

The 2023 BCL Hall of Fame Class includes: Chris Devlin – Calvert Hall (1972); Bob Dillon – Archbishop Curley (1978); David Gately – Mount St. Joseph (1983); Louis Heidrick – Administrator – Calvert Hall; Reggie Holmes – St. Frances (1995); Eddie Oliver – Calvert Hall (1984); Coach Dan Popera – Archbishop Curley; Tremaine Robinson – Archbishop Spalding (2000); Matt Rum – Loyola (2009); Calvin Scruggs – Towson Catholic (1989); Matt Tanner – St. Maria Goretti (2002); and Mark Valderas – Cardinal Gibbons (1977).

The sixth BCL Hall of Fame class of 12 inductees joins 60 previous inductees who were enshrined in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Completing its 52nd season in 2022-23, the BCL is comprised of eight Catholic high schools in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County and Washington County — Archbishop Spalding High School, Calvert Hall College, The John Carroll School, Loyola Blakefield, Mount St. Joseph High School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, St. Frances Academy and St. Maria Goretti High School.

The league, founded for the 1971-72 school year, is one of the most prestigious boys high school basketball leagues in the country.

The league’s website can be found at bclbasketball.com and the BCL can also be followed on Twitter at @bclbasketball.
