Father John E. Lynch Jr., C.S.P, dies at 101 November 19, 2025By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Local News, News, Obituaries A 10 a.m. funeral Mass will be offered for Paulist Father John E. Lynch Jr. Dec. 10 in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Father Lynch died Nov. 15. He was 101. Born in New York City, he studied at the Paulist minor seminary in Baltimore before entering the novitiate in 1944. He made his first religious promises in 1945, his final promises in 1948 and was ordained a priest May 1, 1951. Father Lynch taught Latin at the Paulist seminary in Baltimore in 1955. Elsewhere, he served in California, Canada, and the Archdiocese of Washington. He was a former professor and administrator of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. In a joint academic program with the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies in Toronto and the University of Toronto, he earned a licentiate in medieval studies at the institute and a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Toronto.
