Sister Katherine O’Neil, I.H.M., dies at 84 November 20, 2025By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass for Sister Katherine O’Neil (formerly known as Sister Mary St. Germaine) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was offered Nov. 20 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Dunmore, Pa. Sister Katherine died Nov. 13. She was 84. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., and given the name Katherine Cecelia, Sister Katherine entered the IHM Congregation Sept. 8, 1959, made temporary profession of her vows June 27, 1962 and final profession of her vows June 27, 1967. Sister Katherine earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, both in elementary education, and a master’s degree in religious studies, all from what was formerly Marywood College in Dunmore. Sister Katherine taught at St. Agnes School in Catonsville (1972-74). Elsewhere, she served in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the Archdiocese of Washington, West Virginia and New York.
