Trinitarian Father Thomas Burke dies at 71 August 14, 2023By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Feature, Local News, News, Obituaries A funeral Mass for Trinitarian Father Thomas Burke was offered Aug. 14 at St. Lawrence Martyr in Jessup. Father Burke died Aug. 11. He was 71. Born in New Castle, Pa., Father Burke studied at St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Roland Park and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he earned a doctorate in sacred theology. Father Burke entered the Trinitarians in 1969 and professed his solemn vows at St. Bernard in Baltimore in 1977. He was ordained a Trinitarian priest in 1978 at St. Matthew in Northwood. In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Father Burke was vice rector and professor at St. Mary’s Seminary and University. He was a priest in residence at St. Lawrence Martyr in Jessup and, in semi-retirement, lived and served as a weekend associate at Resurrection of Our Lord in Laurel. Elsewhere, Father Burke served his religious community as minister provincial, provincial councilor, minister conventual and formation director. He was a former rector, department chair and teacher at his high school alma mater, DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville.
