At a time when so many people and the planet are suffering, the world’s religions need to come together to promote truth, compassion, reconciliation, justice and peace, Pope Leo XIV said.

A landmark Catholic document, credited with igniting a revolution in Catholic-Jewish relations over the decades, has turned 60.

As a dedicated Catholic and parishioner of St. Jude’s Church in North East, Md., airline pilot Carol Stone has been to shrines, basilicas and so many religious destinations across the world.

For the Catholic Church, interreligious dialogue “is not a tactic or a tool, but a way of life — a journey of the heart that transforms everyone involved, the one who listens and the one who speaks,” Pope Leo XIV said.

Catholic education, which has changed over the centuries, must continue to evolve to help young people face the challenges not only of technology but of confusion about the meaning and purpose of life, Pope Leo XIV said.

Rather than educating students to “become experts in infinitesimal details of reality,” Pope Leo XIV said, Catholic universities must help them have a broader vision, one that holds together faith, spirituality and knowledge of the world.

Participating in the Jubilee for Synod Teams and Participatory Bodies in Rome was a moving experience of communion, prayer and listening at the heart of the universal Catholic Church. 

Commemorating the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and its Creed, as well as reaffirming hopes for peace in the Middle East, Pope Leo XIV will travel to Turkey and Lebanon Nov. 27-Dec. 2.

Then-Msgr. Miroslaw Wachowski, an official of the Vatican Secretariat of State, was ordained a bishop by Pope Leo during a ceremony in St. Peter’s Basilica Oct. 26, after appointing the 55-year-old Polish priest to be papal nuncio to Iraq Sept. 18.

In the presence of hundreds of priests and with lay faithful packed into the pews and standing along the walls, U.S. Cardinal Raymond L. Burke celebrated the traditional Latin Mass at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica.
