A sweet gift, a birthday, Easter foods, and spring snow (7 Quick Limericks) April 2, 2021By Rita Buettner Catholic Review Filed Under: Blog, Commentary, Open Window In honor of National Poetry Month, you can expect the 7 Quick Takes this month to be in poetry form. ~1~We have a delightful friend Annie,Whose knowledge of our tastes is uncanny.To Hershey she wentWhere to an astounding extentBought us candy to fill every cranny. ~2~This week our sweet niece turned 14.She just loves this whole quick-taking scene.And she’s extraordinary,So, I hope it was merry.We can’t wait to see her with no screen. ~3~Sometimes I do make a good meal,And this week we had one that was real.With ground beef and black beans,This chili‘s fit for a queenOr for us who devoured it with zeal. ~4~Someday this pandemic will end.Curbside pickup will still be my friend.One day I pulled in my spot,And the number I got,Was my Grandma’s address—a godsend? ~5~Now, for Easter what foods do you serve?We don’t have a set dish or hors d’oeuvre.Bunny butter—well, yes,And then just to impressEasy cookies, which we all deserve. ~6~So, although we all thought it was spring,A quite different song we must sing,Since two days in a row,We have seen falling snow.Now I wonder what April will bring. ~7~Do you like eggs—all colors and sizes?Finches’ eggs might take all the prizes,Since they’re tiny and sweetAnd make Easter complete,As we celebrate how Jesus rises.
