A funeral Mass for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Marian Katherine Schaechtel was offered Jan. 27 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center Chapel in Reading, Ohio. Sister Marian died Jan. 21. She was 85.

Born in Baltimore, Sister Marian attended Trinity Preparatory School in Ellicott City before entering the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1955.

She served as a faculty member at Trinity from 1970 to 1999, teaching religion and language arts to fifth through eighth graders throughout those years. She also later served as a guidance counselor at the school.

In 1999, Sister Marian began serving in a leadership position for the Maryland Province of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, continuing in that role until 2010. 

Elsewhere, Sister Marian served in Pennsylvania, New York and the Archdiocese of Washington.
