CEO, authors, NFL coach take part in Catholic college commencements May 25, 2023By Catholic Review Staff Catholic Review Filed Under: Colleges, Feature, Local News, News Three Maryland Catholic universities featured a diverse crew of speakers and an NFL coach walking across the graduation stage at 2023 spring commencement ceremonies. At Mount St. Mary’s University, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was among the Class of 2023 who listened to commencement speaker Karen Mataldi Dahut (Mount Class of 1985), the chief executive officer of Google Public Sector. Bowles completed his bachelor’s degree in youth and community development in the fall of 2022 through the Center for Accelerated and Adult Education at Mount St. Mary’s University. The Catholic Review featured him in a story in October during the NFL season. The Bucs coach was one of 616 graduates taking part in the 215th commencement ceremonies May 15 for Mount St. Mary’s at the Emmitsburg college’s Knott Arena. Dahut, a respected and recognized public speaker and author, is an expert on technology, the future of work, innovation and inclusive leadership. In 2021, she received the university’s Simon Brute Medal, presented to alumni who have distinguished themselves through their career, commitment to the community and the Mount, and service. She was honored with a doctorate of humane letters in recognition of her service to the university and the local and global communities. At Loyola University Maryland, the Baltimore college celebrated its 170th commencement at the CFG Bank Arena in downtown Baltimore May 20. Approximately 1,200 students walked across the stage to mark the completion of their bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees during the ceremony. The commencement speaker, Chris Lowney, received a doctorate of humane letters. Lowney is an author and business leader. At Notre Dame of Maryland University’s commencement May 24, former United States Treasurer Rosie Rios spoke to about 600 graduates at the Baltimore Convention Center. Rios is recognized for leading the initiative to place a woman’s portrait on U.S. paper currency for the first time in more than a century. She received an honorary doctor of humane letters from Notre Dame.
