St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore has been awarded a $2 million grant by the Department of Veterans Affairs under its Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. The grant will help provide services to veterans experiencing homelessness in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, according to a news release from St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore.
The award allows St. Vincent de Paul to build on its existing broad array of housing and homeless services in Baltimore City and County. The new St. Vincent de Paul program will serve 225 veteran families annually who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness with rapid rehousing and supportive services, according to the release.
“St. Vincent de Paul has been a leader in Baltimore over the past three decades in serving individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless,” John Schiavone, president and CEO of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, said. “We are excited to have been selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs for this opportunity and look forward to expanding our rapid rehousing services to address the specific needs of veterans and their families.”
St. Vincent de Paul will collaborate with other veteran services providers in the city and county to conduct outreach and ensure that veteran families are identified, aware of services offered and connected with St. Vincent de Paul and other veteran services. St. Vincent de Paul will offer a range of rapid rehousing and other services including case management; short- to medium-term rental assistance; housing search and placement; service linkages for health, mental health and somatic health; employment and legal services; and VA benefits.
