A sweet gift, a birthday, Easter foods, and spring snow (7 Quick Limericks)

April 2, 2021

In honor of National Poetry Month, you can expect the 7 Quick Takes this month to be in poetry form.

~1~
We have a delightful friend Annie,
Whose knowledge of our tastes is uncanny.
To Hershey she went
Where to an astounding extent
Bought us candy to fill every cranny.

~2~
This week our sweet niece turned 14.
She just loves this whole quick-taking scene.
And she’s extraordinary,
So, I hope it was merry.
We can’t wait to see her with no screen.

~3~
Sometimes I do make a good meal,
And this week we had one that was real.
With ground beef and black beans,
This chili‘s fit for a queen
Or for us who devoured it with zeal.

~4~
Someday this pandemic will end.
Curbside pickup will still be my friend.
One day I pulled in my spot,
And the number I got,
Was my Grandma’s address—a godsend?

~5~
Now, for Easter what foods do you serve?
We don’t have a set dish or hors d’oeuvre.
Bunny butter—well, yes,
And then just to impress
Easy cookies, which we all deserve.

~6~
So, although we all thought it was spring,
A quite different song we must sing,
Since two days in a row,
We have seen falling snow.
Now I wonder what April will bring.

~7~
Do you like eggs—all colors and sizes?
Finches’ eggs might take all the prizes,
Since they’re tiny and sweet
And make Easter complete,
As we celebrate how Jesus rises.

Find more quick takes on Kelly’s recently redesigned blog, This Ain’t the Lyceum, and have a wonderful weekend—and happy Easter.
